#009 - Eisenhower Matrix + Notion
Hello friends, welcome back! 👋 (7th March, 2021)
Building a community of strong action takers, where we mutually improve and share experiences of different actions through non-fiction books, have been part of Zeroton's plan since the early stage. We can’t wait to start this journey with you soon!
Eisenhower matrix
Dwight Eisenhower served as the the 34th president of the United States. During the WW2, he was also an army General, responsible for planning and supervising various invasions, including the successful Invasion of Normandy.
Given the importance of his position, Eisenhower had to be decisive and productive consistently. He employed a simple and effective decision tool to do so - the Eisenhower matrix - a 2x2 matrix consisting 2 factors: urgency and importance.

Urgency and importance
Urgent tasks are things that need to be sorted out now, things that you react to.
Important tasks are those with high value from the perspective of your long-term goals.
In an ideal scenario, all important tasks should been planned well in advance such that they don't fall into the urgent and important category. (i.e. they stay in the important but not-urgent quadrant)
If the task is urgent but not important, you should delegate it to someone else.
In the case you don't have anyone to delegate the task, you can consider using buffer blocks mentioned in 12 Week Year book (they are time blocks created to deal with all the unplanned items arise throughout the day)
If the task is neither urgent nor important, then you should eliminate it.
Notion template
We have create an Eisenhower matrix Notion template you may use for to separate your tasks.
To divide and rank tasks in more fine grained detail, we have also included additional metrics you may use / modify.
Important tasks should naturally have a higher impact score.
Certainty concerns with how predictable the outcome of the tasks are going to be.
We hope you will find this useful and feel free to duplicate the template and customise to your own use! 😊
Question of the Week 🤔
What are the opportunity costs of your planned actions? If you decide to pursue this action, what won't you be able to pursue?
Feel free to tag or drop us a message on LinkedIn, Twitter to share your experience 😊
Quote of the Week 💡
I have two kinds of problems, the urgent and the important. The urgent are not important, and the important are never urgent. - Dwight Eisenhower
This week's top 3 #zeroton90 actions 💥
Next time you consume a new piece of information / knowledge, ask yourself "How can I incorporate this into my daily life?" 🖼 - Brian P. Moran, The 12 Week Year
Rationale: Knowledge is only powerful if you use it, if you act on it... Great ideas are worthless unless they are implemented
Create your weekly scorecard. A weekly scorecard measures your execution level and score the percentage of activities you completed each week 💯 - Brian P. Moran, The 12 Week Year
Rationale: The best way to measure your execution is to work from a weekly plan and evaluate the percentage of tactics completed. If above 85%, you are most likely to achieve your objectives. The weekly scorecard forces you to confront your lack of execution and it can be uncomfortable!
The next persons you speak to, find out 1 - 2 interesting facts about them 😇 - Brian P. Moran, The 12 Week Year
Rationale: Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves. The ability to listen seems rarer than almost any other good trait.
